"Rattle Me Timbers"

Rattle, you wonder? Oh no...it's not some sweet baby rattle...it's a rattlesnake that is! My mom was out pulling weeds...without gloves, I might add...and there it was all curled up! Just about 10 feet from our front door. It is a baby, but all that tells me is his momma is somewhere too! The pictures are great, but one I tried to get a close up of the actual rattle...it's very small, but I think you'll be able to see it. There rattlesnake is currently living (probably dead by now) inside the bucket with a lid on it. And yes, I put a rock on top of the lid. For those wondering...my dad is the brave sould who put it into the bucket and my mom did NOT scream...crazy, eh?!

Yikes! Now that is creepy. Good pictures! Are my eyes deceiving me or does he look a little hairy in that first pictures - are they hairy as babies.

I'm with Summer - I want to know what your momma said/did... I'm sure I'd jump - ask me about the garden snake I saw while jogging one night.

That is too much! AHHHH! I would have screamed my head off. My Dad ran into rattlesnakes all the time out on our ranch in south Texas. Luckily I never had that pleasure but was always told how dangerous they are. I am glad your Mom acted so calmly and that no one was hurt.

EWW..I hate snakes! I cant believe your mom didn't scream. I take of running and screaming at the little garden snakes that the kids find at work.

Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwww! I doubt a rock on a closed bucket would have allowed me to sleep at night. I shovel or shotgun - definitely.
You all be careful out there!!

(Just think - I was sleeping in their habitat a month ago, unknowingly)

Crazy stuff! We lived in the country (literally you could go outside in your underwear and be assured no one would see you) and we had lots of snakes, etc., one even got in our house. Glad you got this one contained and hope you find momma if she's out there...

I hope your camera had a good zoom lens and you really didn't get that close to the snake! Thank goodness we haven't seen any at our house- I'd tell Jeff we're moving!

Oh, no, no, no! YUCK! I would be doing the shivers everytime I walked past that spot...FYI, one of my students a few years ago did a report about rattlesnakes. Apparently, baby rattlesnakes are just as poisonous as an adult rattlesnake; gross, huh!
